Swedish game called off after a fan got killed


The game between Helsingborg and Djurgården was called off after a supporter of Djurgården died from the injuries he sustained after an assault before the game.

Just a few minutes before halftime the game between Helsingborg and Djurgården was called off. Rumours about the death of a supporter spread through the stands and fans from Djurgården stormed onto the pitch.

The players left the pitch after referee Martin Hansson made the decision to call off the game.

"Did everything I could"

Shortly after the police confirmed the supporter had died from the head injuries he sustained.

– I can confirm that a person has died, police spokesperson Ewa-Gun Westford told Aftonbladet.

A firefighter, who claims he was first on the scene, writes on Twitter:

"I did everything I could to save him".
